Many people have a desire to travel for an extended period and work along the way. There are activities a traveler can do that will create income. Some will be sufficient to give you a bit more spending money, some can pay most of your travel expenses and some can generate a real income in which you can save money as well as travel. Many activities would require a work permit from the host country. In this article we will look primarily at activities that do not require a permit.
English Teacher: There are many on and offline programs with which you can obtain a certificate to teach English as a foreign language. Here in Thailand, many foreigners teach English and many are not native English speakers. Often they are working without a work permit and most don’t seem to have a problem. There are always opening somewhere so it’s pretty much a sure thing that you can find work. Some countries pay much better than others. Japan and South Korea are known to pay quite well.
Write About Travel: There are quite a number of publications that use travel articles that are both online and off. Travel magazines, travel company publications, Newspapers, and many travel related websites all need travel articles. A blog of your own is also a possibility. Create interesting content about travel or anything else that will attract visitors and then have products or affiliate programs available for your readers. There are training programs online for Travel writers if you need to boost your skills.
Content Writing: Many online sites hire individuals to write articles. You can also do this independently, look for outsourcing sites that will hook you up with buyers. The articles are sold to bloggers and others who don’t have the time or desire to write their own material. This can be a good option if you enjoy writing.
Massage: Do you have massage skills or at least a desire to learn? If you do, massage can be quite lucrative. You can practice in a spa setting if work permits are not a problem. Or, you can offer your services to other travelers that you meet along the way. I was a massage therapist in Hawaii and when I traveled many people were interested in experiencing the Hawaiian Lomi Lomi style of massage. Develop a niche that will create some curiosity in people you speak with.
Importing: I have a few friends whose income is completely from buying and reselling merchandise. They travel to Bali, India, Thailand, and other places, purchase inexpensive goods and ship them home to sell or market them online. They enjoy shopping and it’s a good way to know more about other cultures. Get familiar with your countries import laws to avoid problems later.
Internet Marketing: Learn the system of Attraction Marketing that can be used with virtually any product or affiliate program. It is a very effective way to generate income. You will need a laptop and an Internet connection and of course the training to do it. It is a requirement for the next method, Travel Network Marketing.
Travel Network Marketing: This is my favorite and my choice. I work with a company that offers discount travel through Network Marketing. This serves me in two ways. One, I can purchase my travel at a discount, particularly when there are packages in the locations I’m interested in. Secondly, I’m always in contact with other travelers who are often interested in the business. I also use the Internet to market the program and I can do that anywhere I can get online. This method clearly has the potential for the most income. Most people will take a few months to get up to speed and have a consistent income but once you get rolling it doesn’t take an enormous amount of time to keep it going.
Having the freedom to travel and the resources to do it is a great feeling. I wish you safe travels and a successful business.
