What’s Next for Information Technology (IT)?

Wikipedia defines “Information technology” as “the study, design, development, application, implementation, support or management of computer-based information systems, particularly software applications and computer hardware”. This basically pertains to all things mobile communications and computers.

Society has adapted and succumbed to technology in many ways. We have adapted to technology in the way we do business to communicating with someone in China. Since IT has rapidly changed our society, it is extremely important for us to understand it.

Since everyone takes advantage of technology’s benefits in one form or another, we are in constant need of someone to help us troubleshoot and answer our questions. Thankfully we have IT professionals that assist us in those areas. IT professionals and staff work diligently to analyze, strategize, and repair any malfunctions in technology. IT technicians normally have an extensive background and education in computer science. They also must become certified to become a technician. So, they are extremely knowledgeable in the area of IT.

IT really first came about in the early 90s where personal computers began to arise in homes and offices. With the rise and dependency on email usage, computers became a must have. As a result, the rise in the amount of computers and computer usage has caused the need and demand for IT.

The Internet really expanded technology into what we know today. The Internet provoked email, file transfers and sharing, and even downloading music. The Internet even became readily available on cell phones and is a regular capability on all cell phones produced today.

Although technology has enhanced our society and our capabilities, unfortunately there are some downfalls. IT professionals and technicians are constantly researching and experimenting with ways to provide better services, faster Internet speed (such as fiber optics), and download time. They are also busy with enhancing connection speed, upgrading and adding more RAM to systems, and adding wireless capabilities.

We would find it extremely difficult to function in the work place or in schools without the help of IT professionals and technicians. Even in this economy, there are many jobs available and becoming available in IT or computer science. The area of IT shows no signs of slowing down or stopping anytime soon.

Some of the greatest writers and film directors of our time have all tried to predict where technology will take us in the future. The possibilities for technological advances in the future are endless. Information technology has already greatly impacted our society. What new gadget will surface that promises to make our lives easier? Will the world become one giant Wi-Fi dome? What does the future hold?
