Green Technology for a Sustainable Society

Green Technology is used to describe sustainable energy generation technologies and inventions. Green inventions are environmentally friendly inventions that usually involve: energy efficiency, reduce, reuse and recycling, safety and health concerns, renewable resources, etc. It also means a class of electronic systems that can promote sustainable management of resources.

The world has limited natural resources, some of which are already depleted or ruined. It often happens that household batteries and electronics containing mercury and other chemicals are not discarded properly. They pollute the groundwater, soil and affect food crops as they contaminate the soil making it harmful for us. The risk to our health is sky high if this is not controlled.

What is the goal of Green Technology?

It’s the field that will bring innovation and changes to our daily lives for the better. Green Technology has some goals to bring them out in great magnitude which are:

* Sustainability – meeting the needs of society in ways such that they can continue towards the future without damaging or depleting natural resources. Sustainability means meeting present needs without compromising the needs of future generations.
* “Cradle to cradle” design – ending the “cradle to grave” cycle of manufactured products as they damage health and environment, by creating green products that can be fully reclaimed or re-used.
* Source reduction – reducing waste and pollution by changing the amount of production and decreasing the consumption rate.
* Innovation – developing and inventing new alternatives to technologies
* Viability – creating a center of economic activity around technologies and products that benefit the environment, speeding their implementation and creating new career posts that will be truly devoted to protection of the planet.
There are many Green Technology practices being taken up. One such practice is Green building. In layman terms, it is a structure that is eco-friendly and uses less water, optimizes energy efficiency, conserves and optimizes use of natural resources, generates less waste and provides healthier shelter for occupants, as compared to a conventional building.

Objectives of Green building

The main aim of constructing a Green building structure is to minimize the conventional building and its effects. Also know as sustainable building, this structure follows these below mentioned objectives:

* Efficient usage of energy, water, and other resources
* Protection of occupant’s health and improving
* Reduction of waste, pollution
* Implementation of ways to decrease environmental degradation
* Rain water harvesting and water purification
* Air purification by planting more plants and trees in the surrounding and keeping more potted plants that will purify the air and make the environment fresh.
* Usage of Green building materials like grass, bamboo, etc.

Sustainable buildings have far more advantages than the conventional buildings. They are an appropriate choice for constructing a sustainable society. Government of India needs to promote Green tech and sustainable building and advice the population to adapt the idea of green living. This needs to be done by the society as a whole. Such a society will be economic and socially sustainable.
