Travel Not without Travel Insurance

Many people argue that if you can’t afford travel insurance, you can’t afford to travel. Although finding the best policy is not always easy, they do have a point. Travel insurance exists to protect a traveler’s investment in their journey ensuring they don’t lose out and get medical help in case of an emergency. Whether you lose your luggage or it gets stolen, fall ill or have an accident, you need to know that you can get help, without it burning a hole through your pocket. This is where insurance companies step in. When you choose a suitable travel insurance policy, it gives you a peace of mind and it may save your life. Therefore, while pondering over which policy suits you best, it is best to make sure you look at the details.

In the event of a serious illness or injury, the expenses can go from thousands to lakhs of rupees. Affording this kind of treatment is not possible especially if you are stuck in a foreign land. This is where travel insurance is beneficial. But high prices do not always mean best coverage. It is pointless paying a travel insurance premium for something that is of no use to you. Cutting down on options and lowering limits will often reduce the premium you pay. Comprehensive medical coverage is a must. Travel insurance policies vary which is why you should read the fine print carefully. Certain pre-existing medical conditions that increase the likelihood of a claim will not be included in the policy.

When you are away from home, your belongings are all you have. Buying replacements in case of theft or loss is not a feasible or practical option. When choosing a travel insurance policy, you need to confirm how your luggage is insured. Is it covered for loss, theft and damage? Are there individual item limits? Are laptops included? You need to ask questions like these to have a clear understanding as to what extent your belongings are covered under your travel insurance policy. If anything is unclear, call your travel insurance provider as they are legally obligated to unravel the legal jargon in fine print in simple terms.

Other essential points to understand about your travel insurance policy include cancellation, delay in travel, personal liability and airline and end supplier insolvency. When traveling, keep the emergency number close. If you require medical help, seek treatment immediately. If your situation is not medical in nature, you can call your insurance provider for advice on their protocol. To make a travel insurance claim, you will need to submit some paperwork, so make sure you keep receipts and other things that will support your claim.
