One of the most influential art movements, Art Nouveau, (literally “new art” in French) had a massive influence on the architectural styles of Europe and the United States during the late 1890s and the 1910s. Because of its emphasis on curves, and lined patterns, Art Nouveau architecture tends to stick out due to its unique style. Most buildings built during this time were modeled in the Art Nouveau style, and because of the building boom at that time, many examples of this hotel interior design style are still around. The best place to find Art Nouveau architecture and interior design is in hotels nowadays, due to the fact that many hotel managers find it easy to draw in customers by keeping with a historical look. Many famous hotels can be found in Europe with Art Nouveau hotel interior design. Once such hotel is Hotel Bristol, found in Warsaw, one of the few such buildings in Poland that survived World War II. Many of the most famous Art Nouveau designed hotels are located in Prague. One of the most famous is the Hotel Paris, finished in 1904, which contains a beautifully designed exterior and interior to match–the flooring contains original mosaics, a grand staircase with original wrought iron railings, brass motifs embedded on walls, etched glass mirrors and windows, plus golden chandlers. The hotel was renovated in 1991, restoring it to its original hotel interior design, based off old photographs, and through installing new wallpapers and carpets. Many gold-leaf and brass statues are found in the lobby and café areas, a style that was popular in the early 1900s.

The Hotel Evropa is another excellent example of an Art Nouveau-designed hotel in Prague, with outstanding hotel interior design. Much of its interior lighting and decoration is original, due to the fact that the hotel was used as a place for important guests of state for years.
The hotel interior design at the Evropa is immaculately detailed. The interiors were considered so authentic that many movies based in the period were shot at the site, including Titanic.

For any tourist wishing to see the spectacular Art Nouveau interiors, Prague is the place to go. Several other hotels, while not quite as authentic-looking as the Evropa and the Hotel Paris, are also located in and around Prague, offering an opportunity for any art enthusiast to get a glimpse at the past.
