An Antigua Holiday spent in a family owned oceanfront hotel could be a dramatically different way to take a vacation especially if you choose the Long Bay Hotel. It is situated on the northeast coast of Antigua flanked by a beach and a lagoon, and close to the Indian Town and Devil’s Bridge National Parks.
The best way of describing the Long Bay Hotel is to say it is small, with less than thirty rooms, old fashioned, and almost with the feel of a members only country club to it, absolutely worlds away from the all-inclusive hotels that dor the Caribbean like a rash. The fact that it is privately owned makes it much more personal, and this becomes obvious the longer you stay there. There is almost something slightly eccentric about it, and unlike many hotels in the world where you ate cocooned and could be anywhere, the Long Bay Hotel will leave you with many happy memories of what Antigua must have been like twenty or thirty years ago.
To go into slightly more detail, it has been described as the top B & B in Antigua, although a better description might be that it is a top Caribbean Hotel in Antigua. To call it a B & B hardly does it justice, it is much better to think of it as a top, if old fashioned Caribbean Hotel which just happens to be in this lovely corner of Antigua.
You won’t find loud music, you won’t have to suffer entertainment all the time, and you would be very unlucky indeed to come upon that awful sight of the drunks you find at the all-inclusives. The biggest blessing of all is that there are no televisions throughout the hotel, which is a great relief. You will find nice spacious rooms, a fantastic shower, and a good balcony. The beds are comfortable, and quite frankly how much time do you spend there anyway.
The room rate at Long Bay Hotel is half board covering breakfast and dinner, and both meals are good quality with great food, and plenty of it. At Dinner there is a choice for each of the courses, and joy of joys you don’t have to book, just turn up between 7.30 and 9.00pm!!
Some people feel a Caribbean holiday, especially an Antigua Holiday isn’t complete without a hotel swimming pool, which is of course just crazy, when places like Antigua reputedly have one beach for every day of the year, and some of the best beaches in the world to boot. Long Bay Hotel has no pool, but what it does have is a lovely beach and a great beach house restaurant. The beach is so good that people come from all inclusive hotels close by, and actually pay to hire sun loungers and enjoy the peace and quiet. There are two ways of looking at this, and the first is that it is a compliment to the atmosphere created by the Long Bay Hotel, but the other is that they shouldn’t be allowed to come and put at risk the ambiance.
All in all the Long Bay Hotel will give you a great Antigua Holiday, and with small touches like no deposit to play pool or table tennis, it will make you feel very much at home in this lovely oceanfront, personal service Caribbean Inn.
