There were stories that this hotel is haunted by Colonel Tutweiler himself. People who have been here and the staff themselves mention that the Colonel does not just roam around its hallways. In fact, a few years ago, they had a bartender got into trouble because he left all the lights and stoves of their onsite restaurant on after closing time. The bartender insisted that he turned off everything before he left the restaurant. However, every time he went back to the kitchen and the rooms, it was all turned on again.
He went home after he gave up turning it off over and over again. The incident went on and was repeated for a whole week. By the end of the week, the manager noticed that someone cooked a large meal and took out a bottle of wine the night before. Since then, the staff of the restaurant and hotel would say before leaving the hotel, “Good night Colonel, please turn the lights and stove off, and don’t make a mess.” No problem came up again after that.
There are still rumors about spirits roaming in the hotel but it is not like before. This is ever since the renovation of the hotel last 2007. Many believe that renovations chase away old spirits because they seem to have resided in each fabric of the building.
The New Tutwiler Hotel
After the hotel’s 9 million worth of renovation last April 2007, you will find its irresistible charm, especially with its new interiors, timeless exterior and fine furnishings. It also recently announced its affiliation with the Hilton Family, showcasing itself now as a Hampton Inn and Suites Hotel. The new property is located opposite the civic park of the city and the bustling financial district.
This historic hotel is truly amazing. It surpassed a hundred years of charm. Hence, its amenities and features are now modern and new. In fact, the hotel does not possess that “cookie cutter” rooms, what they have is a unique layout for every room. Each is equipped with large wood windows, offering spectacular views of the metro below.
You will also adore the beds. They are fluffy, tall and piled with high pillows. This is actually the luxurious Cloud Nine bedding known as a distinct mark of every Hampton Inn and Suites accommodation. The beds also have a soft duvet, mattress topper, several firm yet soft pillows and high thread count sheets. Other amenities include a 32 inch flat screen TV with more than 75 channels (Cable), a lap desk, DVD player, ergonomic chairs, clock radio, big desks and digital thermostats as well as big closets, Hampton shower curtain, hair dryer and coffee maker.
