Vitamin D is called as the “sun shine vitamin” because it is formed by the direct exposure to the sun light in human body. It’s an essential component that a human body requires for proper growth. Vitamin D toxicity is an overdose of vitamin D. which can results in some really serious health issue as well as the deficiency of vitamin D is also harmful for you. So it’s necessary but not beyond or less than its requirement.
But recent studies show that there is a relation between vitamin D and weight loss we know that the lack of vitamin D can cause obesity. Recent studies showed that if every increase in 1ng/ml in level of 25- hydroxycholecalciferol – a measure of vitamin D status -can end into almost losing 0.2kg of weight more than the restricted calories diet. These are the findings presented at the endocrine society’s 91st annual meeting in Washington.
It is also stated that if we further increase the dose for each 1-ng/ml can results in 0.107 kg more weight loss. This shows that if vitamin d is taken along with low calories diet can increase the weight loss in the words of the study’s lead author, Shalamar Sibley, MD, from the University of Minnesota. This effect of vitamin D on weight will gain the attention not only developed country increasing obese people but also newly wealthy emerging markets.
Study details
According to Sibley and co-workers these study proves the relationship between vitamin D and weight loss but its not cleared that inadequate vitamin D level cause the obesity or the other way around. In this study the researches recruited 38 overweight men and women and started giving them calorie restricted food. And provide 750 calories a day much less than normal need for 11 weeks. Levels of vitamin D in blood are measured before and after the study.
During the meeting in Washington he said that most they have insufficient vitamin D level and it’s related to the weight loss in a linear relationship. And also she said that higher vitamin D levels are responsible for decrease in fat levels but she confesses that more research is need in vitamin D and weight loss. So conclusion is that although we don’t know the real relation between the vitamin D and weight loss but we know that they have some sort of relation which needs to be found soon to help the increasing number of obese people.
