The Bright Side of Today’s Advancement – Healthy Diet Recipe

There was a time when people really didn’t take much notice of what they were eating. Especially in the 1800’s when the west was just starting to be explored, when settlers began home steadying land, when a hard day’s work meant waking up at dawn, to plow the fields, herd cattle, or set up fences, men ate what they could eat and did not seem to gain weight. This is due to the fact that they had active lifestyles and they spent their days sweating it out and doing hard labor in order to survive and get by. Those days are gone and the modern man’s work is not as tedious and laborious as those in the past.

We are more sedentary these days. Most of us toil seated in our own cubicle or office, staring at the computer or reading and analyzing data and information given to us. This is not necessary a bad thing as we have become such an efficient economy and people are really more productive in terms of producing goods and services. Advancements in technology have automated a lot of the processes that were once done manually. Take for example agriculture and farming. Machines have been invented to plow and cultivate the acres and acres of land so that what used to take 50 people to do is now being done by two or three persons. Surplus in agriculture has led to surplus in food supply as well. People know are eating more because there is more food and more choices. Groceries and supermarkets enable us to stock with as much food as we can possibly want. There is theoretically no limit with the amount of food we can purchase.

So we are a bit out of balance. Normally we eat heartily to sustain for the next day of hard toil and manual labor. This is not true anymore, as we don’t work too much under the sun these days. Added to this, we have produced additives made to sustain the shelf life of food. As productive as we are, there is less and less time for other things like food preparation and the convenience of buying ready to eat food is more than tempting, it is downright practical. Eating out also has its drawbacks since servings have increased in size over the last two decades. With the value for money concept still en vogue, restaurants and fast foods cope with such by giving us large portions. To upsize things as some fast food chains push their products. These all affect the health of our nation and sad to say we have become a nation of obese people.

Still there is a bright side to this. Advancements in research on proper eating provide us with healthy diet recipes that can help us lose and maintain the weight loss as well.
